A Walt Disney World vacation should be fun for everyone – not just your kids – the adults should get to enjoy all that WDW has to offer too! I know when it’s a ‘family vacation’, everything tends to revolve around the kids, which is all well and good, but what about the grown up fun? Everyone deserves to enjoy a vacation, so hire a babysitter for the kids, and head out for some ‘adult friendly fun’ outside the Parks:
Eats: Tired of eating chicken nuggets and burgers and fighting for a table inside the crowded Theme Parks? Well, you’re in luck, because WDW has plenty of amazing restaurants that are great for couples and can even set a romantic tone for the evening! The WDW Resort Hotels as well as Downtown Disney offers some delicious options, like African inspired cuisine at Jiko, or a classic steak dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse. Check out my post on romantic restaurants for even more places where you can eat, relax, and most of all take some time to enjoy each other’s company!
Entertainment: Follow up your dinner with some drinks at one of the Resorts, or go check out all that Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island have to offer. From bars to live music to dancing to movies to bowling to Cirque Du Soleil, there really is something that everyone can enjoy here. And if none of that appeals to you, you can always take a stroll around the Resort, all of the Resorts are beautifully landscaped and have hidden Mickeys and other surprises everywhere! Personally I always try to have a few meals at Resorts I have never been to, so I can get a chance to experience new restaurants AND new Resorts on every trip!
Venturing outside WDW: Should you have a car and the inclination to get out and explore the world outside WDW (yes, such a world DOES actually exist, believe it or not!), there is a whole bunch of options available to you for your date night outing! Restaurants, bars, malls, movie theaters, live music – the Orlando area has a lot to offer! Start with the Orlando Entertainment Guide for some ideas, and then check out the Orlando Sentinel website for news on upcoming events.
If you love the Downtown Disney atmosphere but want an escape from the “Disney” aspect, then check out Universal CityWalk, where you can drink, dine, mini-golf, check out a show by the Blue Man Group, or take in some live music at the Hard Rock or at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville
What’s my idea of a perfect WDW date night? Dinner (and animal spotting!) at the Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Boma, followed by a trip over to the Boardwalk Resort for a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk and a sweet finish at the Boardwalk Bakery
How about you – where do you like to go for a night on the town when vacationing at WDW?
