Construction will consist of 1.7 miles of roadway that will connect Kirkman Road to Universal Boulevard and will feature an elevated traffic circle. The construction is a welcomed addition to Epic Universe, as the park is situated approximately 3 miles south of the current Universal Orlando Resort theme parks, and will hopefully also serve to ease congestion along International Drive.

Ken Leeming, Orange County highway construction manager, noted the construction project is also “fully multimodal” and will include “bicycle/pedestrian facilities”, adding “it provides three travel lanes in each direction for general use and it also provides dedicated bus lanes, which will assist in distributing traffic to the Universal park.”

The construction is being paid for via a mix of funds from Universal, Orange County, and the state, with Orange County contributing $125 million for the extension, a state grant contributing $16 million, and Universal paying the ~$160 million balance.

Work is expected to be completed in 2024, ahead of the 2025 opening of the new park.
