New Google Chrome Extension Offers ASL Captions for Films on Disney+. Though there is still plenty of additions to be made, Google Chrome’s new SignUp captions extension is allowing those who use ASL to enjoy several titles on Disney+. Thanks to the work from extension founder Mariella Satow and her team, Disney+ subscribers with SignUp can enjoy Moana, Zootopia, and The Incredibles with ASL Captions!
SignUp is a free tool was created due to many members of the deaf community who find that written captions lack vibrancy or aren’t descriptive enough, or are absent from media sites entirely. “My original vision for SignUp was as a learning tool for students of American Sign Language, like me. I found it difficult to find free learning resources, and wanted to change this… I was an avid movie watcher as a child, and want everyone to be able to have the same experience,” shared Satow.
According to Variety: “Users can download the tool by searching “SignUp” in the Google Chrome extension store. When using the extension, viewers can adjust the size and location of the ASL captions, which will sync up with the movie.”
The captioning service is hoping to add “Frozen,” “The Little Mermaid” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” to their roster on Disney+ very soon. SignUp captions was developed in partnership with Rahul Bhisra and his team at Softpulse Infotech.
