A NOLA.com reported recently toured Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with Imagineering executive creative director Ted Robledo.

Robledo kicked off his tour in the queue courtyard of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, featuring new flagstone pathways and a mural by Louisiana artist Malaika Favorite. The two-story barn, a Splash Mountain relic repainted yellow, serves as the backdrop. According to Robledo, this courtyard sets the scene for the adventure, akin to a movie setting where understanding the location is crucial.

The first floor of the barn, accessed by guests in the queue, will host the offices of Tiana’s Foods. The attraction’s backstory reveals that Tiana established the co-op following the events of “The Princess and the Frog.”

Barn-adjacent poles will uphold speakers transmitting a 1920s radio show, featuring reimagined classic New Orleans tunes performed by a group of local musicians handpicked by Grammy winner Terence Blanchard, a New Orleans musician.

Joining forces with Malaika Favorite and Terence Blanchard, Disney enlisted P.J. Morton, Maroon 5’s keyboardist and another New Orleans native. Additionally, the family of the late Queen of Creole Cuisine, Leah Chase, who inspired Tiana, is part of this collaborative endeavor.

“This is our love letter to New Orleans, and in that spirit, art is everywhere,” Robledo said. “The city as a place is as important as a character. The story reacts to the place. We’re starting to hint at that in the queue, to try to craft that love letter to New Orleans in every way possible.”

In the loading zone of the attraction, NOLA.com observed cranes lifting Tiana’s Foods crates. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will utilize the identical ride vehicles and track from Splash Mountain. The NOLA reporter had the opportunity to stroll along some sections of the track, highlighting the replacement of all artificial vegetation from Splash Mountain with native Louisiana plants such as cypress trees, marsh grasses, and Spanish moss.

“This will be where we first see ‘the critters,’ as we’re calling them,” Robledo said, referring to the ride’s new animal band.

Multiple Tiana animatronics are set to engage directly with guests, employing cutting-edge technology akin to the high-tech versions seen in the recent World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland, as noted by NOLA.com. Distinguished by advanced physical faces, these animatronics deviate from the previously favored projected screen faces that were prevalent in Disney a few years ago.

The Disneyland Park iteration of the attraction will feature identical Audio-Animatronics, maintaining consistency across most facets of the experience.

Inside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, new additions encompass a duo of stone arches spanning the ride flume. However, certain elements of Splash Mountain’s architecture, such as rocks and boulders, will be retained.

Regarding the removal of the tree from the summit of Splash Mountain, Robledo explained, “We needed some real estate there to fit the added show magic.”

The tour finished just before the climactic scene, previously known as the Laughin’ Place. Robledo said of the surprise scene, “I’ll just say it’s got a lot to do with magic. It’s a magical moment that happens down there.”
