Following the massive success of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru in the summer of 2022, a film that grossed nearly $1 billion globally, the world’s most significant animated franchise embarks on a fresh and exciting chapter. Gru, portrayed by Oscar® nominee Steve Carrell, along with Lucy (Oscar® nominee Kristen Wiig) and their daughters—Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan)—welcomes a mischievous new addition to the family, Gru Jr., determined to add chaos to his father’s life.
Gru confronts a formidable new adversary, Maxime Le Mal (Emmy winner Will Ferrell), and his femme fatale partner Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara), compelling the entire family to go on the run.
The film introduces an array of fresh characters voiced by talents such as Joey King (Bullet Train), Emmy winner Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), and Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live). Pierre Coffin reprises his role as the unmistakable voice of the Minions, while Oscar® nominee Steve Coogan returns as Silas Ramsbottom.
Packed with relentless action and infused with Illumination’s trademark subversive humor, Despicable Me 4 is helmed by the co-creator of the Minions, Oscar® nominee Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets). The film is produced by Illumination’s visionary founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, alongside Brett Hoffman (executive producer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Minions: The Rise of Gru). Co-directed by Patrick Delage (animation director of Sing 2 and The Secret Life of Pets 2), the screenplay is crafted by the Emmy-winning creator of White Lotus, Mike White, and the seasoned writer behind every Despicable Me film, Ken Daurio.
