New Permit Signals Carousel of Progress Overhaul Is Moving Full Speed Ahead at Magic Kingdom
The future is getting one step closer at Magic Kingdom as Walt Disney Imagineering has filed another permit tied to the massive overhaul of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. While the beloved Tomorrowland attraction is still welcoming guests for a little while longer, the latest filing gives us another clue about what is happening behind the scenes before the attraction closes next month.

The newly filed Notice of Commencement names Icarus Exhibits as the contractor responsible for installing show set elements. If that name sounds familiar, it is because the company has worked on many recent Walt Disney Imagineering projects, creating highly themed environments and custom show pieces. Their involvement suggests work is moving into the fabrication and installation phase for the attraction’s all-new scenes.
Disney has already confirmed that Carousel of Progress will receive its biggest update in the attraction’s history. Guests can look forward to four completely reimagined show scenes representing the 1960s, the 1980s, New Year’s Eve 1999, and a brand new vision of the future. The attraction will also debut a new opening scene featuring Walt Disney as an Audio-Animatronics figure, adding an exciting new chapter to one of Walt Disney World’s most iconic attractions.
This latest permit joins several others filed in recent weeks, including permits for fire protection, structural steel, electrical work, and HVAC upgrades. Together, they paint a picture of the extensive work planned once the attraction officially closes on July 6, 2026. Disney currently expects Carousel of Progress to reopen sometime in 2027.
