The Classic Christmas Tale. With A Muppets Twist. It’s Not Easy Being Scrooge Special Edition
On November 6, 2012, the Charles Dickens-inspired classic holiday story “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” will ring in its 20th anniversary with the Blu-ray™ debut of this family favorite.
And now, a word from Gonzo: Greetings, holiday movie fans and lovers of culture, I am Gonzo … or perhaps better known to fans of this classic motion picture as literary legend Charles Dickens. Are you ready to laugh, cry, sing, frolic, cavort and enjoy yourself beyond belief!? Well, you’re in luck, because this 20th Anniversary Edition of Disney’s “The Muppet Christmas Carol” is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit that will stay with you forever—or at least until your Aunt Edna starts complaining that nobody is eating the fruitcake she brought … again!
This movie is the classic tale of Scrooge from a Christmas Carol but with a muppet twist. The movie is adorable it brings together my 2 favorite things Disney and The Muppets. You can’t go wrong with a combination like that. In this movie you will see the classic tale of Scrooge as told be Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat so you know there is some humor thrown in. I have to say my new favorite Muppet is Rizzo the Rat, probably because him and I share the same accent. This will definitely be a new Christmas tradition for my daughter and I.
The Special effects in this movie are amazing, considering this movie was done 20 years ago it is just incredible. When you see the ghost sequence you will see what I am talking about. The Muppets were always ahead of their time just like Disney, so they are a natural team.
Of course I have to talk about the bonus features. Disney Blu-ray has some of the best bonus features I have seen.
First up we have: Frogs, Pigs, and Humbug Unwrapping a New Holiday Classic :
We meet Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat again as they take us behind the scenes and interview Brian Henson the Director and son of the late great Jim Henson. Brian Henson said his favorite part of the movie is putting The Muppets with people and that is my favorite part also. They make it look so natural like The Muppets and the people have always lived around each other. He tells us that this is a very special movie because this is the first movie he directed since his fathers passing. I love the behind the scenes because you get to see all the hard work that goes into making the movie and you get to see the movie from a whole new perspective.
Next is The Blooper Reel:
Who doesn’t love a good blooper reel. Bloopers are even funnier when they are done by Muppets. The Muppets even make mistakes adorable.
Pepe profiles Presents- Gonzo a Portrait of the Artist as a Young Weirdo.
In this we learn about Gonzo. The Muppets all say something about Gonzo as they try to figure out what exactly it is he does.
Last but not Least is:
Christmas Around the World. This is educational because it tells us how different Christmas is around the world. Gonzo and Rizzo tell us how different the Christmas stories are from different parts of the world. I always knew Christmas is celebrated differently around the world but I never know exactly how it is different so my daughter and I both learned something from this bonus feature.
This movie definitely gets an A+
