Multigenerational Cast Members Run Together at Disney’s Holiday 5K

Thousands of Disney cast members and their families recently gathered at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a signature event celebrating connection, community, and whole-person well-being: the annual Be Well… Cast Member, Friends & Family Holiday 5K.

This cherished event is a powerful demonstration of Disney’s commitment to its workforce, bringing together people from all roles and generations for a morning of movement and shared memories.

A Family Tradition Spanning Decades

At the heart of this year’s festive run was a remarkable multigenerational group, anchored by the Lugo family. Mitchelle Lugo, a dedicated 21-year cast member, makes the 5K an annual fixture with her husband, Melvyn (celebrating 24 years with Disney), and their 17-year-old high school-senior daughter.

For the Lugos, the race has evolved into a treasured annual tradition—one that does more than just promote healthier habits. Mitchelle noted that the shared experience strengthens their family bonds and creates unforgettable memories set against the backdrop of the most Magical Place on Earth.

Connecting Across Generations

This year, the Lugo family’s running circle grew even larger, embodying the spirit of Disney’s connected workforce. They were joined by Mitchelle’s leader, John Cogliandro, manager of location planning, along with his wife and their 12-year-old son.

Also lacing up her sneakers was Tyler Saunders, a Disney Programs professional intern who recently began her Disney career with the location planning team.

Together, this expanded group—from the veteran cast members with decades of service to the newest intern and the youngest family members—perfectly represents the heart of Disney’s multigenerational workforce. Their camaraderie and connection across different age groups and professional levels underscore the supportive community and well-being initiatives thriving within the company.

The Holiday 5K remains a beloved tradition, reinforcing that at Disney, well-being is a journey best taken together.
