Rumors Swirl of New “The Muppet Show” Episodes in Development

Building on the momentum of the recent Muppet Show revival special featuring Sabrina Carpenter, the creative team is reportedly back in the workshop developing additional episodes. While the “sensational and inspirational” return has sparked significant buzz, Disney has yet to officially greenlight a full season or confirm a series of follow-up specials.

According to insiders, the Muppets are already busy “assembling” their next act. On the latest episode of the Fine Tooning podcast (Episode 345), noted journalist Drew Taylor revealed to co-host Jim Hill that writers are currently penning scripts for future installments. Taylor expressed high hopes for the project, stating, “They’re working on writing episodes right now for future installments, Jim, so I just hope that it happens.”

The momentum for a full revival is undeniable following the massive success of the recent special starring Sabrina Carpenter. The production debuted with a rare 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and has maintained a stellar 98% audience rating. Critics have hailed the comeback as a “spirited return to roots,” calling it “clever, earnest, and exactly right.”

Directed by Tony winner Alex Timbers, the standalone special brought together an incredible lineup of legendary Muppet performers, including Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel. While Sabrina Carpenter headlined as the special guest, the show also featured hilarious cameos from Maya Rudolph and executive producer Seth Rogen.

The production was a massive collaborative effort, with Carpenter, Timbers, Vogel, and Jacobson also serving as executive producers. The leadership team was rounded out by David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Albertina Rizzo, ensuring the Muppets’ return to the screen was a top-tier creative event.
