Frozen Ever After Reopens Soon with More Magic Than Just New Animatronics
When Frozen Ever After reopens at EPCOT on February 12, 2026, guests will be stepping into more than just familiar scenes with shiny new faces. While the headline change is the replacement of the projected faces on Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff with fully articulated physical heads, Walt Disney Imagineering quietly used the downtime to refresh the entire attraction. According to an Orlando Sentinel interview with Imagineering executive Ken Ricci, crews took advantage of the closure to clean up and modernize key show elements across the ride.

The updated figures feature silicone skin for a more lifelike look, but the process went deeper than a simple head swap. Imagineers had to physically modify the figures’ necks to accommodate the new technology, with extensive pre-planning done through software and tech simulations before installation even began. Alongside the animatronic upgrades, the show control system was updated, lighting was refreshed throughout the attraction, and multiple sets received touch-ups designed to make scenes feel brighter, crisper, and more polished from load to unload.

The EPCOT version of Frozen Ever After originally opened in 2016, but newer versions of the attraction at other parks have steadily moved away from projection faces. When World of Frozen debuted at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2023, it showcased advanced animatronics with physical faces, and now EPCOT’s version is finally catching up. With testing currently underway, guests should expect a smoother, fresher ride when boats start gliding back through Arendelle later this week.
