Auli’i Cravalho Confirms Return to Disney’s Moana 2
Auli’i Cravalho, the voice behind the beloved Polynesian princess in the 2016 film Moana, has confirmed her involvement in the upcoming sequel through an Instagram post. Disney representatives also verified this news to EW.
In the Instagram video, accompanied by Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Cravalho enthusiastically appears in front of Disney’s animation studios in Burbank, Calif., with the iconic sorcerer hat from Fantasia in the background, placing a tropical flower behind her ear. She captioned the video with, “That feeling when you’re officially returning to Motonui,” the actress wrote in the text of the video. “We’re sailing WAY beyond the reef this November.”

The animated sequel came as an unexpected announcement last month, lacking an attached cast. Cravalho won’t be performing any new songs from the original composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, as the film’s soundtrack will be crafted by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy winners for their Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. They’ll collaborate with the original composers Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’.
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, clarified that the movie “was initially conceptualized as a series” for Disney+, but upon seeing its quality, they decided it warranted a theatrical release. Additionally, Iger confirmed that the live-action rendition of Moana, featuring the original voice actor Dwayne Johnson, is still in the works.
