Disney is Testing a New Way to Ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Exciting changes are taking off at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! A new trial is reportedly underway, and it’s specifically designed to make the single rider experience better for groups of two. This tweak could be a game-changer for couples, friends, and duos who want to enjoy the ride together without committing to the standard standby line.

Traditionally, the single rider queue has been a way to cut wait times by filling in gaps left by standby and Lightning Lane groups. However, this often meant splitting up riders, a dealbreaker for many guests visiting in pairs. The new system Disney is testing changes that dynamic, allowing pairs of guests to enter the single rider line together and stay in the same cockpit during the ride.
One important note: while this system ensures you’ll share the experience with your companion, it doesn’t guarantee specific roles. Whether you’re a Pilot, Gunner, or Engineer, your mission depends on the luck of the draw once you board the Falcon.
This modification comes as a direct response to guest feedback. Many parkgoers expressed reluctance to use the single rider line because of the risk of separation. By keeping pairs together, Disney hopes to make the attraction more appealing while maintaining the efficiency that single rider lines offer, especially for rides like Smugglers Run which requires 6 guests to fill a cockpit.
The trial also raises questions about how it might affect overall wait times. While it has the potential to improve guest flow, true single riders may find their wait times impacted as groups of two are prioritized. For now, the test is ongoing, and Disney has not announced whether this change will become a permanent feature.

If you’re visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, be sure to check it out! Simply ask a Cast Member at the single rider entrance to see if the two-guest option is available during your visit. This could be the perfect way to explore the galaxy without waiting in a longer line.
