The Mighty Ducks are hoping to return to filming soon. Back in March, the film crew halted production of the Disney+ series adaption due to coronavirus fears.
The reboot series, with Emilio Estevez back as Coach Bombay, had about a month of filming in the can. Four months later, it’s ready to restart production, with Covid-19 safety protocols. Even though the show is set in Minnesota, filming is taking place in Vancouver.
Below is the synopsis for the Disney+ series:
The reboot is set in present-day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Lauren Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.
The premise is certainly interesting given how the Ducks are the “bad guys.” They were the heroes of their 90’s movies. But the theme works well in sending a message about sportsmanship and the lessons learned in youth leagues. Are any of our fans excited about the Mighty Ducks reboot?
