Melissa McCarthy Confirms ‘The Little Mermaid‘ Will Begin Filming in 2021. Earlier this fall it was rumored that The Little Mermaid was weeks away from returning to production after the pandemic shut down forcing studios to shut down back in March. Now, thanks to a recent interview with People, Melissa McCarthy (Ursula) has confirmed that filming is set to resume in January 2021.
Melissa McCarthy shared, “For The Little Mermaid, hopefully, if everything is … safe, we go back to shooting in January in London. Which is very exciting.”
“I have such an affection for Ursula. I know she’s the villain, but I’ve just always kind of been like, ‘Oh my god.’ I mean, she’s kind of delicious to play,” McCarthy continued, “I’m just kind of doing it as if I could be like the vaudevillian night club act that lives in my heart,” she added of how she plans to fulfill the role. “It’s just so fun, you can’t go too far with her and I’m excited to see it.”
The Cast for Disney’s Live-Action The Little Mermaid currently includes: Halle Bailey (Ariel), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Javier Bardem (King Triton), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Emily Coates (Unspecified), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), and Awkwafina (Scuttle).
