Mel Brooks, Rebecca Romijn, Jenna Elfman, Doris Roberts, Freddy Rodriguez and Sarah Chalke will guest star in new episodes of Disney Junior‘s Emmy-nominated series, “Special Agent Oso,” beginning MONDAY, APRIL 4 (1:00-1:30 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The star-studded week of new episodes includes Brooks as a sleepy grandpa, Romijn as a helpful department store clerk, Elfman as a safety-conscious mom, Roberts as a forgiving grandma, Rodriguez as a health-conscious dad and Chalke as a preschool director. Academy Award-nominee Sean Astin stars as the voice of Special Agent Oso, a fuzzy, lovable, bumbling stuffed panda bear special agent-in-training who enlists the help of viewers at home to complete his missions.
Comedy legend Brooks said of his guest role: “I did ‘Special Agent Oso’ because my five-year-old grandson Henry watches the show and I wanted to surprise him with an appearance.”
Since the launch of Disney Junior on February 14, “Special Agent Oso’s” weekday 1:00 p.m. telecast is up 150% from the year-ago time period average with Kids 2-5. Its weekday 6:30 a.m. telecast ranks No. 1 in the time period, up 38% from last year and defeating Nick Jr. by 57%. [Source: MNR L+SD Averages (2/14/11-2/28/11; note SAO did not air on 2/21/11)]

Paying homage to special agent classics, “Special Agent Oso” follows Oso, a stuffed panda bear who works for U.N.I.Q.U.E. (United Network for Investigating Quite Usual Events), an international organization of endearing stuffed animals charged with helping kids accomplish everyday tasks such as mailing a letter, cleaning their room or learning how to use the library.
“Special Agent Oso” airs weekdays at 6:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. ET/PT and weekends at 7:30 a.m. ET/PT during Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block for kids age 2-7. The series carries a TV-Y parental guideline.
