Meet the Team Behind Cinderella Castle’s Stunning New Look at Magic Kingdom
No matter how many times we visit Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle always seems to find its way onto our camera roll. Now, the park’s most iconic landmark is shining brighter than ever thanks to a recently completed refresh that brought back a more classic look inspired by the castle’s original 1971 appearance.

The massive project, first announced during Destination D23, required months of planning and coordination between Walt Disney Imagineering, Facility Asset Management (FAM), Disney Live Entertainment, Operations, PhotoPass, and other teams across Walt Disney World. The refreshed color palette features deeper blue rooftops, elegant stonework, and enhanced gold accents designed to better reflect Florida’s sunshine while highlighting the castle’s intricate architectural details. Imagineers say the goal was to honor the castle’s history while giving it a refreshed appearance for today’s guests.
Behind the scenes, the work was far more complex than simply opening a few paint cans. Crews first had to completely drain the castle moat, construct temporary dams, and clean the area before moving massive boom lifts into position. Over the course of three months, painters worked up to 150 feet in the air using brushes and rollers to carefully repaint every section of the beloved icon. To minimize disruptions for guests, construction equipment was lowered and moved out of sight each afternoon, helping preserve those picture-perfect views down Main Street, U.S.A.
The numbers behind the project are just as impressive as the finished result. More than 600 gallons of paint were used to refresh the 180-foot-tall castle, with seven boom lifts helping crews reach every tower, rooftop, and decorative flourish. For many of the Cast Members involved, including project managers who helped oversee the work from start to finish, contributing to the restoration of Cinderella Castle was a once-in-a-career opportunity. The result is the sparkling centerpiece guests see today, ready to serve as the backdrop for countless magical memories for years to come.
