Construction Begins on Indiana Jones Maya Temple Facade at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into the upcoming Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is picking up serious steam, and now the next big piece of the adventure is starting to take shape. New aerial photos from the one and only @bioreconstruct reveal that construction crews have begun foundation work that will eventually support the towering Maya temple facade for the upcoming Indiana Jones Adventure retheme of the former DINOSAUR attraction.

The work is happening directly in front of the former Dino Institute building, where the new temple entrance will soon rise. Concept art shows the structure as a lush jungle-covered Maya pyramid that appears mysteriously “perfectly preserved,” inviting guests to step inside and uncover the secrets hidden within. The new attraction will serve as one of the anchor experiences for the Tropical Americas land currently under construction.

Aerial photos from recent weeks already showed pieces of the temple facade being assembled backstage, suggesting Disney Imagineering is prefabricating sections before installing them in the park. The newest images confirm that groundwork is now underway to support those large facade elements once they are moved into place.

This Indiana Jones attraction is expected to reuse the existing ride system from DINOSAUR but with a completely new storyline, queue, and themed environment inspired by Maya history and mythology. Imagineers have even been collaborating with Maya cultural experts to ensure the attraction reflects authentic details and respectful storytelling as the land comes to life.

With demolition of DinoLand continuing and construction expanding across the area, the future Tropical Americas land is quickly becoming one of the most exciting projects underway at Walt Disney World. If these early construction steps are any indication, guests will soon be trading time-roving dinosaurs for whip-cracking archaeological adventure.
