Smith revealed to Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” Podcast, “We were close to me being in it, but then it just never quite happened. I could not possibly say, I could not possibly say, but it was a pretty groovy thing. Like, it was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing. Pretty big — it was like a big story detail, like a transformative ‘Star Wars’ story detail. But it never quite got over the line.”
Many speculate Smith was meant to appear as a clone of Emporer Palpatine OR as the first live-action version of General Thrawn from the animated ‘Rebels’ series and books. Smith neither confirmed nor denied these rumors, likely due to the fact that he may still make his Star Wars debut in a future project, but couldn’t find a way to make his entrance in this last sequel. Are you excited that Matt Smith may be joining the Star Wars Universe? Which role would you love to seee him in? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
