I don’t know about you, but I’ve got Poppins fever and the only cure is more Poppins! I am a HUGE Mary Poppins fan and I am totally geeking out for the 50th anniversary edition release of Mary Poppins on Blu-ray on December 10, 2013 (a mere TEN days from the US theatrical release of Saving Mr. Banks on December 20, 2013…snort, snort…geeking out here!!!!). I am beyond thrilled to announce that I am officially renaming December to Poppincember. No, seriously…that’s totally what this fabulous month of geeky goodness will be renamed! I love it!!!!
So, what do we have to look forward to in this special 50th anniversary edition? Of course you’ll get the beloved movie! No one does it quite like Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke! The movie and favorite songs like “Spoonful of Sugar” come to life in this digitally enhanced version! Also, there are two new special features, unique to this release. One is a sing-a-long feature, ingeniously dubbed “Mary-oke” (like karaoke)! Now you can sing to the top of your lungs and jam out in true supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fashion. Also included on the anniversary edition is a featurette titled Becoming Mr. Sherman, starring Jason Shwartzman from Saving Mr. Banks. In the film, Shwartzman plays the role of Richard Sherman (one of half of the Sherman Brother’s, composers of many wonderful songs, including songs featured in the film Mary Poppins). This featurette Shwartzman and the real Richard Sherman chat on the topics of music writing for the film Mary Poppins, working with Walt Disney, and the upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks.
Arriving in time for Christmas, you can be sure that this Blu-ray combo pack will please any Disney lover, ensuring a jolly holiday for sure. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy! I know it will be practically perfect in every way! Hurry up Poppincember! Aren’t you excited? I know I am! Pre-order your copy today!
