Marvel’s Morbius projected to break $40 million for its opening weekend.
While Sony is expecting $33 million from the Daniel Espinosa directed, Jared Leto starring movie, industry estimates are higher between $40M-$50M. Morbius is arguably the first Marvel horror title since New Line’s Blade movies.
Since Morbius the Living Vampire is not nearly as well known to general audiences as Spider-Man, analysts are making conservative estimates. Being a vampire anti-hero may appeal to both fans of the superhero and horror genres.

A synopsis of the film reads, “Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil—or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?“
Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa and stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson, with a special appearance by Michael Keaton as Vulture. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have penned the script for Sony and Marvel Entertainment.
Marvel’s Morbius releases in movie theaters on April 1st, 2022.
