Marvel’s TV presence is expanding into another platform. The company will be launching a new series based on Marvel’s cult favorite comic series “Runaways”, on Hulu.
“Runaways” follows a group of six teenagers who discover their parents are members of a supervillian group called The Pride. Fearing their safety they all go on the run. The group consists of Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes, Chase Stein, Alex Wilder and Gertrude Yorkes.
The Marvel series was created in 2003, by writer Brian K, Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona. The hulu series will have Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as showrunners.
After Vaughan and Alphona parted ways from “Runaways” in 2007, another creative team took it over, including Joss Whedon. When the comic series ended, some characters got integrated into other Marvel universe. Victor Mancha, Ultron’s son, became an Avenger, and Nico Minoru became a member of A-Force. Nico’s mother, Tina Minoru, appeared in the Doctor Strange prequel comic. So there are ties to the larger Marvel cinematic universe.
I’m always excited when an existing Marvel property is introduced into the film and TV universe. What are your thoughts?
