Fans of ABC’s ‘Castle’ are in for a real treat. Marvel Comics and Richard Castle, Nathan Fillion’s eccentric author on ABC’s hit series, have teamed up to bring fans their first ever Derrick Storm mystery, in the form of a graphic novel. For those who don’t know, Derrick Storm was Richard Castle’s popular mystery novel character in the show before he began writing the Nikki Heat novels, based off his adventures in the show with Kate Beckett.
For fans of the show, this is a great to delve deeper into the stories of Richard Castle, who already has three of his Nikki Heat novels, ‘Heat Wave’, ‘Naked Heat’, and ‘Heat Rises’ published for fans of the series. I’m really enjoying ABC and Disney’s cross pollinating into different forms of media to reach fans of the series. It’s things like this that make getting into a TV show so much fun, especially with a show with such a big following. Fans of the show may have noticed that the graphic novel even made a cameo appearance in a brilliant bit of cross promotion in last night’s superhero based episode, ‘Heroes & Villains’.
‘Deadly Storm: A Derrick Storm Mystery’ has been adapted by highly acclaimed writer Brian Michael Bendis, who is most notably known for his work on Marvel’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ and his run on ‘DareDevil’, as well as Kelly Sue DeConnick, with art by Lan Medina. Having picked up a copy of the graphic novel myself, I can say it’s definitely worth a look. It’s a breezy read, fun, and it really feels like a story written by Richard Castle. You can really feel the characters voice coming off the pages. It’s actually some of the most fun I’ve had reading a graphic novel in a long time. I highly recommend it for fans of the series. Check your local comic shop and book stores for this graphic novel, it’s in stores now!
