2019 is quickly shaping up to be an exciting time for Star Wars at the Disney parks. The new Galaxy’s Edge area is coming to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort later this year. Details about the lands and new rides have slowly been trickling out in anticipation for the big openings. A new Marvel comic series was just announced that will give fans a new look at the area and delve into the history and lore of Black Spire Outpost.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is an upcoming five-issue miniseries written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Will Sliney. Both have worked with Marvel on Star Wars comics before with titles like Star Wars: Age of Republic and the comic adaptation of Solo: A Star Wars Story. The new series will take place on the planet of Batuu and will introduce an important new character that will play a major role in the upcoming land. Readers will learn about the infamous Ithorian collector Dok-Ondar and his collection of rare antiquities from across the universe. Early concept art and images released by Disney have featured the collector and his shop that will be open to guests visiting Galaxy’s Edge when it opens.
When asked about the connection between the comic and the new land, writer Ethan Sacks said, “Our series will give fans the chance to visit Black Spire Outpost months ahead of voyaging to Batuu in person. Armed with top-secret sketches and information from Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm, we are keeping this authentic to the spirit of this rich new setting. I’d tell you more, but I already have the death sentence on 12 systems…”
The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic hits shelves this April. Galaxy’s Edge is slated to open this summer at Disneyland Resort, and this fall at Walt Disney World. Be sure to check back for more updates on this highly anticipated addition to the parks.
