An unfortunate incident happened to a guest visiting Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. A 54-year-old man boogie boarding in the ocean had a close encounter with a shark. The man appears to have been bitten twice by a shark. The bites were near his knee and back of his calf. Guests on the beach noticed the ordeal.
Witnesses say the man was about 30 to 40 feet out where the waves broke. That’s when they noticed the man was in distress and rushing to get out of the water. The resort medical team reached the man within a minute.
Disney resort medical staff applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg and kept his wounds covered until fire rescue arrived. Indian River County Fire Rescue took the man to Sebastian River Medical Center.
