The internet has been all abuzz this afternoon about the Main Street U.S.A. Theater that was planned for the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Apparently, the Main Street U.S.A Theater project has been axed by Disney and will not be built.
Originally announced at the 2017 D23 Expo, the Main Street U.S.A. Theater was planned to bring live action shows like the Frozen production at Disneyland to the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street U.S.A. Theater was promoted as being a copy of the Willis Wood Theater in Kansas City, Missouri. This is where Walt lived after departing Marceline, Missouri.
It’s pretty surprising that plans for the Main Street U.S.A. Theater have just been cancelled at this time. Recently, we reported that land was starting to be cleared backstage at the Magic Kingdom to make room for the Theater. We were under the assumption that the foundation would have been poured shortly as well.
The Main Street U.S.A. Theater was planned to be built near the current Town Square Theater and Tomorrowland.
No word on if the Theater will built at another location on Disney World property or what might possibly be built on that land at the Magic Kingdom that has started to be cleared.
