Live-Action ‘Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers’ Film to Premiere on Disney+. In Spring 2019, Disney announced a live-action/cgi hybrid film based on the popular 1989 animated film Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers to the Rescue and television series was “in the works” at the famed studio. At the time it was unknown if the film would premiere in theaters or on the freshly announced streaming service, Disney+. According to an exclusive report from The DisInsider the new Rescue Rangers film will premiere exclusively on Disney+!
The DisInsider shared, “We have learned that production on the live-action/CGI hybrid is set to begin filming next spring in Los Angeles, California. The studio is also prepping this film as a part of their original films for Disney+. Another cool tidbit on the project we are hearing but have not been able to confirm, is the original voice cast for the Rescue Rangers team, Tress MacNeille (Chip and Gadget), Corey Burton (Dale and Zipper), and Jim Cummings (Monterey Jack) are all expected to return for the film.”
Chip and Dale have been causing mischief for the classic Disney characters since 1943, but became the Rescue Rangers in 1989 with the release of Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers. The film was a success and sparked a 3 season television series, with the characters wearing outfits inspired by Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and Magnum P.I (Tom Selleck).
Producers of the film, David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who also produced The Muppets and Beauty and the Beast, announced Akiva Schaffer will direct the new film starring our mischievous chipmunks, Chip and Dale. The film will be set up as a “Meta” based story, but all other details on the film are being kept air tight by the studio and crew.
Currently, season 1 of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers is available to stream on Disney+. It is unknown when season’s 2 and 3 will be added to the streaming service. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Disney+!
