Disney recently shared some bittersweet news: Dakari and Kamari are retiring to a conservation haven in Florida, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The decision, guided by a deep commitment to the lions’ well-being, will allow Dakari and Kamari to live out their golden years in a setting dedicated to their health, happiness, and comfort. Over the years, these two lions have been cared for by a team of dedicated animal keepers and veterinarians who have ensured they received world-class treatment. Their presence will be deeply missed by both the team and the park’s many visitors.

While it’s hard to say goodbye, there’s excitement on the horizon. Following Dakari and Kamari’s departure, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will welcome a new pride of young lions. These incoming residents are already bonded as siblings, which should ease their transition into the savanna habitat. Initially, they’ll spend time backstage, familiarizing themselves with the animal care team and their new environment before being introduced to guests. Soon, visitors will witness this sibling pride as they take their place on Kilimanjaro Safaris, adding a fresh dynamic to the savanna.

As Dakari and Kamari move on to a well-deserved retirement, they leave behind a lasting impact on Disney’s Animal Kingdom and its guests. Their legacy will live on, reminding visitors of the beauty, strength, and importance of conservation for African lions.
