I have been seeing articles the past few weeks now of people interested in buying Miramax. I think with this economy everyone is very leary about jumping in. What I thought was interesting in this article from Business Week was the makers of Twilight were interested as well:
Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., the maker of the “Saw” horror movies, is interested in buying Miramax, the film unit Walt Disney Co. is putting up for sale.
“It would be something that we would certainly look at,” Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns said today on a conference call.
Other potential bidders for Miramax include Summit Entertainment LLC, maker of the “Twilight” movies, and Qualia Capital LLC, a closely held media investment company, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Miramax is worth about $500 million, according to David Davis, managing partner at Arpeggio Partners LLC, an investment advisory firm.

DISNEY'S MIRAMAX NAME IN EXCHANGE FOR THE MIMIART NAME? I have heard in addition to a Lionsgate deal,or any other deal, one of the interested bidders for Disney’s Miramax name is said to be from a small Art-house independent movie company called MimiArt Films, LLC. The principals of the company are said to have selected Walt Disney’s CEO, Robert Iger’s parents’ names, “Mimi” and “Art” (Arthur), for their company name “MimiArt.” Apparently, this was done in the hopes that by combining these two names, that this could somehow miraculously transcend the MimiArt Films Company to the same heights as the Walt Disney Company. Evidentially the MimiArt name has captured a personal endearing sentimental chord with Iger, as discussions have taken place between Nick Van Dyk, Chairman of Miramax Television and the Attorney for MimiArt Films.
