Lights Go Out as Director J.J. Abrams Talks About Carrie Fisher’s Role in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘. During the ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘ press conference, Director J.J. Abrams was asked about Carrie Fisher‘s (Leia Organa) role in the new film since production took place after her passing in 2016. As J.J. is talking the lights go out at a complete perfect moment to which Abrams says a welcoming but nervous “Hi Carrie!” claiming that such a disruption is so “on brand” for the late Star Wars star.

Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD) captured the moment on video and shared it on Twitter for the world to see. The video showcases the entire cast and creators of Star Wars: Episode IX answering questions about their characters, the story, and the completion of the Skywalker Saga. Check out the special moment in Brandon’s video below:

It’s hard to believe this kind of event is circumstantial, given Carrie’s personality and mannerisms in life, and the fact that this happened towards the end of the conference, but it’s nice to think her spirit was with her fellow cast members during the event.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker tells the tale of the surviving Resistance who faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.”
