Leave A Legacy At EPCOT Will Be Moving

When you walk into EPCOT, the first thing that catches most people’s eyes, after the giant EPCOT ball, is the monoliths which house Leave A Legacy.  It was recently reported that some major changes would be coming to this area.  The changes will be in the form of a new, first-of-its-kind play pavilion.  In order to make way for these changes, Leave A Legacy will be moved into a beautiful setting just outside of the park’s gateway.

The Leave A Legacy Program was launched during the Millennium Celebration in 1999.  It gave guests the opportunity to commemorate their visit to EPCOT, similar to the “Walk Around the World” program at Magic Kingdom.  Like the “Walk Around the World” program, the Leave A Legacy Program was eventually discontinued.  June 2007 saw the discontinuation of the Leave A Legacy Program.

The Leave A Legacy program allowed guests to have their pictures taken at photo-capture stations.  The photos were then etched onto steel tiles and mounted on one of the 30 monoliths in the Leave a Legacy Plaza.  The stones range in height from 3 to 19 feet.  The heaviest stone weighs more than 50,000 pounds!  In all, there are more than 550,000 tiles that were sold and remain on display.
