As COVID cases increase due to the Delta variant some cities and states are considering requiring proof of vaccination for indoor activities. LA is taking a step towards requiring the vaccine for indoor restaurants, bars, gyms, shops, movie theaters and other venues.

Los Angeles city attorneys have been directed by the City Council to draft the law that would require vaccines in order to enter certain indoor venues. Much of the plan and details remain to be worked out. We don’t know exactly where it would apply or how it would be enforced. Once the law is drafted, it will go before the City Council for approval.
California has already ordered that healthcare workers statewide must be fully vaccinated come early fall. State and school employees will also need to show proof of vaccination or be subjected to a regular testing regimen.

Council President Nury Martinez said, “If we ever want to get back to normal, to what Los Angeles was like pre-COVID, we need to stop the spread in places most high risk. So, if individuals want to go to their gym, go to their local bar without a mask, you need to get vaccinated. And if you want to watch a basketball game, a baseball game, go to a concert at a big venue, or even go into a movie theater, you need to get a shot.”
The California Restaurant Assn. and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 have both support the new measure. Others strongly oppose the measure saying it is overreaching and a way to “punish people who aren’t vaccinated.”
Where do you stand on requiring the vaccination in order to enter indoor venues like gyms and restaurants?
