Kathryn Hahn Confirmed to Play Mother Gothel in Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Movie
It looks like mother knows best! Disney has officially confirmed that Kathryn Hahn will take on the role of the villainous Mother Gothel in the upcoming live-action reimagining of Tangled.
The news was shared through a collaborative social media post where Hahn sported a Mother Gothel shirt with the caption “OOTD, Mother Gothel.” Disney Studios followed up with a post of their own, making it official with the tagline, “You want her to be the bad guy? FINE.”
Hahn is no stranger to playing magical antagonists. Fans will recognize her from her standout performance as Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in WandaVision and her own spinoff series, Agatha All Along. Her ability to balance humor with a more sinister edge makes her a natural fit for the vain and manipulative Mother Gothel.
Before the official confirmation, there was plenty of speculation surrounding the role, with names like Scarlett Johansson also being rumored for the part.
With Mother Gothel now cast, the main trio for the film is set. Hahn joins Teagan Croft (known for her role as Raven in Titans), who was previously announced as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim (Zombies), who will be playing the charming Flynn Rider.
The live-action Tangled project has had a bit of a bumpy journey. Initially reported to be in development in 2020, the film saw several shifts in production status over the last few years. Following the success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, the project moved back into active development. Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) remains attached to direct, with a script from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
With the casting of such a high-profile villain, fans are eager to see how this version of the 2010 animated classic will translate to the big screen.
