Disney’s Animal Kingdom Changes Annual Refurbishment Plan for Popular Water Ride
Kali River Rapids is set to adjust its usual winter refurbishment schedule in response to the impending closure of DinoLand U.S.A. The popular water attraction will be closed to guests from October 6, 2025, until sometime before the permanent closure of DinoLand U.S.A. in early 2026.

This change in schedule is directly related to the new Tropical Americas expansion that is set to replace DinoLand U.S.A. The new land is expected to feature experiences themed to the film Encanto and a new Indiana Jones attraction. By shifting the Kali River Rapids refurbishment to the fall, Disney can ensure guests have at least one of the park’s major thrill rides available during a key phase of the construction, strategically managing guest flow and attraction availability during the transition.
The change marks a shift from the ride’s traditional refurbishment timeline, which has historically taken place after the busy holiday season, from January through March. This new schedule accommodates the closure of DinoLand U.S.A., including the DINOSAUR attraction, which will officially have its final day of operation on February 1, 2026.
