Joss Whedon Has Turned in His Outline For 'The Avengers 2'

Fans of the Marvel cinematic universe are about to get very excited. We all know that Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct ‘The Avengers 2’, while also over seeing the rest of Marvel’s slate through 2015, including ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, and writing and directing the pilot episode of the Marvel series ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ for ABC. I thought with the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ pilot set to shoot in January, that Whedon was hard at work on the script for the pilot, but it looks like Whedon’s done much more than that. We have learned Entertainment Weekly has learned that Joss Whedon has already turned in his outline for ‘The Avengers 2’.

According to an article in an Entertainment Weekly, Whedon turned in his outline for the film right before getting ready to shoot ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’. From the article:

We met with him just days after he had submitted an outline for the 2015 sequel The Avengers, and as he was in the midst of preparing to shoot the pilot for what could be his next television series: S.H.I.E.L.D, a spy-fi drama tracking the ongoing adventures of the secret agents and superhero wranglers of Marvel’s movie world. If ABC he picks up the series, Whedon will remain involved as exec producer, and frequent collaborators Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible) and Jeffrey Bell (Angel) will serve as lead showrunners.

While not much is known about ‘The Avengers 2’ at this time, it’s assumed we’ll see the return of Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk, respectively, in the sequel. But with many characters being introduced in the Phase 2, there’s always a chance we’ll see some new characters thrown into the mix as well. I’ve speculated before that the villain of ‘The Avengers 2’ will most likely be Thanos, who is set to be introduced in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, and his quest for an item known as The Infinity Gauntlet. Here my previous thoughts on the sequel:

If you haven’t seen ‘The Avengers’ yet, you may want to avoid this next part, because it could be considered spoiler material. But with this new information, it makes me wonder if, with Marvel’s recent slant heading in a semi-cosmic direction with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, which is also part of the set up for ‘Avengers 2’, could the film be titled ‘The Avengers: The Infinity Gauntlet’? All signs point that the big bad in the sequel be Thanos, who we saw in the post credits scene of ‘Avengers’, and will be a big part of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, and this is the most obvious story line to go forward with, and one of the most famous. If it ends up being the case, I’m going to be very happy, and very excited. ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ story line is one of my favorite story arcs in Marvel history, and could be a very epic and exciting one to watch play out on screen. It’s also one that will test ‘The Avengers’ and really push them in a way you’d never expect.

I’m very excited to see what Whedon has in store for us in ‘The Avengers 2’, how about you? Are you excited for the sequel? Let me know in the comments below, only here on Chip and Company!
