John Lasseter was recently asked if there was talk about the possibility of a black protagonist in upcoming Disney/Pixar movies in a recent press conference for the upcoming new movie “Inside Out“.   Lasseter responded how Disney/Pixar wants to bring more diverse characters to upcoming Disney movies including more female and ethnic characters.  Lasseter also reflected about how when he started in animation, it was a very male oriented industry.

Over the years, more women and more people from all over the world are working in Disney positions behind the scenes to bring us all new characters and films.   In the upcoming movies, “Inside Out” which features the story of a young girl whose emotions help her cope with the changes when her family moves to the big city, and “Moana” which bring us a tale about a Polnesian princess, Disney is trying to add diversity to new characters.
