Joe Pesci Reveals if He’d Do a Third Home Alone Movie

Recently, actor Joe Pesci spoke with PEOPLE to reflect on his experiences filming Home Alone 2 as the film is gearing up for its 30th Anniversary. Pesci shared the atmosphere on set, working with the cast and crew again, and how he suffered real injuries from stunts during filming!

Joe played Harry Lyme, one half of the Wet Bandits who terrorize Kevin McCallister for a second time during his unchaperoned trip in NYC. To help character integrity Pesci admitted,  “I remember Macaulay [Culkin] as being a really sweet kid and, even at his age, very professional. I intentionally limited my interactions with him to preserve the dynamic between his character, Kevin, and my character Harry.”

As for filming with the rest of the cast and crew, Joe shared that filming felt “the same, if not more, energy and enthusiasm as the original,” and that there was “more spontaneity and creativity on the set.” He continued, “It was a nice change of pace to do that particular type of slapstick comedy, but the Home Alone movies were a more physical type of comedy, therefore, a little more demanding.”

Pesci also shared that he sustained injuries from the iconic scene where a booby trap causes his hat to catch fire in the sequel. “In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire. I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts.”

PEOPLE also inquired about his interest in a third Home Alone with the original cast to which he shared, “While you never say never, I think that it would be difficult to replicate not only the success but also the overall innocence of the originals. It’s a different time now; attitudes and priorities have changed in 30 years.”
