‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Finds Its Directing Duo

After months of speculation on who would finally helm the latest entry in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ franchise, Disney has hired Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg to continue Jack Sparrow’s adventures. The names won’t ring a bell with the causal moviegoer, but they were actually the favorite pick by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who loved the duos style after seeing their film, ‘Kon Tiki’, which has recently took the filmgoing community on fire. When we ran the short list just a few weeks ago of who the studio was looking at, Ronning and Sandberg were my choice for the gig. I think this series needs a new vision and style, and in their hands, the series will get the much needed jolt of life the last few entries in the series have been missing. It helps that the film is being written by Jeff Nathanson, so the whole new entry will have fresh blood all around, which is what will help make this franchise sore again.

One thing that makes these two an ideal choice for the film is that they filmed a lot of their latest film on water, which means they’ll have an upper hand on filming out at sea. Maybe this means we’ll see more epic and grand looking seafaring battles, something the last entry was missing. Johnny Depp will once again return as Captain Jack Sparrow, and I’m hoping we’ll also see the return of Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa. I’m sure we’ll more about just who we can can expect to see in the new film soon. Are you excited for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’? Let me know in the comments below, only here at Chip and Company, and hit the jump to check out the trailer for Ronning and Espen’s first film, ‘Kon Tiki’. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ is set to open July 10, 2015.
