Jim Carrey Is Not Reprising His Role for a Grinch Sequel Despite Rumors
Jim Carrey has no plans to make a return to Whoville in the near future, debunking recent online rumors. Despite circulating reports suggesting a sequel to the 2000 live-action adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with Carrey reprising his role, the actor’s representative has clarified to People that these claims are unfounded.
According to Carrey’s spokesperson, “There is no truth to Jim reprising his role as the Grinch in a sequel to The Grinch.” The representative’s statement contradicts the online rumors surrounding the actor’s involvement.
As of now, Universal Pictures, the studio behind the 2000 film, has not provided any official comments in response to People’s inquiry about the rumored sequel. Jim Carrey, who portrayed the iconic Grinch character in the 2000 adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s classic book, directed by Ron Howard, is not currently slated to revisit the whimsical world of Whoville.

Carrey had stated that he was retiring from acting while doing press for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 back in 2022. When asked if he contemplated changing that decision Carrey said, “If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink, that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”
Carrey added, “I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough,” he added. “I’ve done enough. I am enough”
