Netflix Cancels Marvel Productions, are “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” Next? After the cancellation of Netflix/Marvel Productions such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and Daredevil, will Netflix order the cancellation of The Punisher and Jessica Jones?

It came as a real shock when Daredevil was cancelled after previously announcing plans for at least 3 more seasons for the popular Netflix/Marvel Series. Amy Rutberg, who starred in both Daredevil and The Defenders, had reported that executives from Marvel were “very surprised” Netflix had chosen not to continue with the popular Netflix series.

During a conversation Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, told “the television studio will always be beholden to our networks.” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos backed Loeb’s statement. Sarandos also confirmed that the Netflix/Marvel shows “are for us [Netflix] to cancel.”

Kevin Mayer, the Disney direct-to-consumer and international division chairman as well as the overseer of Disney+, told THR the “very high quality” shows may be resurrected under Disney, potentially on Disney’s New Streaming Service, Disney+. Mayer stated, “We haven’t yet discussed that, but I would say that’s a possibility.”

There has yet to be a formal announcement yet by Netflix about the fate of Jessica Jones and The Punisher, but with the current track record of the other Marvel/Netflix led series, Comicbook.com says it is more than likely that the two will not return at the end of their currently scheduled seasons. This is very surprising given that The Punisher just released the highly anticipated Season Two. When asked about his take on the matter lead actor, Jon Bernthal, said he was “at peace with it.” Bernthal went on to say, “But in this business there’s so much we can’t control. Whatever is happening with these shows, these decisions are being made in rooms I’m not invited into and I’m OK with that.”

We have yet to hear what the cast of Jessica Jones thinks about the potential cancellation.
