Director James Gunn says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. is the end of an era for the cast of the cosmic band of misfits.
The final installment in the director’s “Guardians” trilogy made headlines out of Comic-Con over the weekend.
“This is the end of that story,” Gunn said at Comic-Con, re-confirming that “Vol. 3” will be his last “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie. “I’m sorry. Some stories have an end. It doesn’t mean everybody dies.”
Now, as the film’s release is less than a year away, Gunn has shared a powerful tribute to the franchise on social media.

At the moment, it’s unknown exactly what the future holds for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, as Gunn has spoken openly in the past about this film being the last time the group of Guardians fans have come to know would be heavily featured. There will still be cosmic heroes and villains for future MCU projects.
Also, Vol. 3 will be the third and final in Gunn’s series of Guardians films, with Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone and Will Poulter also set to star. Filming has wrapped in the spring season of this year and Marvel Studios is still working on editing. Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito and Nikolas Korda are exec producing, and David J. Grant and Simon Hatt serving as co-producers.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
In the meantime, fans can see the Guardians of the Galaxy making an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder!
