It’s been 2 weeks since Bob Iger took office as Disney CEO has anything changed?
It has been 2 weeks since former CEO Bob Iger has taken over the reins at the Walt Disney Company from Bob Chapek. News of the changeover happened late on November 20th as a surprise to many Disney Fans and even Bob Chapek himself. The board approached Bob Iger on Friday, November 25th that they wanted him to return to the helm at the Walt Disney Company and he graciously accepted.
Since then we have not really seen anything change at the Walt Disney Company. Fans and celebrities praised Iger’s return but other than that things seem to be the same as they were with Bob Chapek. Disney Stock jumped when Iger took office but it has remained under $100 per share which is kinda meh…
Let’s break down some of the things we have seen in the past 2 weeks.
After the news broke that Bob Chapek was out, a few key people that worked for Chapek left. Kareem Daniel of Disney’s Media & Entertainment and Arthur Bochner Chapek’s speechwriter both quit.
It was reported that Bob Iger never really left the books at the Walt Disney Company, he was being paid $10 Million Dollars to “Consult” Bob Chapek but he never really took advantage of Iger’s insight as head of the company.
Bob Iger was filled with gratitude and excitement to return to the Walt Disney Company as he tweeted about his first day back. Then later that day he held a Company-Wide Townhall Meeting where he spoke to Cast Members about past issues and briefly touched on things to come. You can read the highlights here.
Disney and Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis started back their feud on who should have control of the Reedy Creek District and Desantis had a few choice words to say about Bob’s Townhall Meeting.
Bob Chapek’s Master Shipbuilder Sign was removed from Castaway Cay but he didn’t really have much to do with that as that sign reflects who is in charge at the Walt Disney Company.
Iger was spotted at Disneyland with Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro just before checking out fan-favorite Candlelight Processional. Many fans tweeted their excitement after seeing Bob and some could be heard yelling “We Love You, Bob.”
Other than that the news front has been pretty quiet for the return of Bob Iger to the Walt Disney Company. I get it’s the holidays and we probably aren’t going to see any big changes at least till after the first of the year.
I do know that Disney is still hiring. Bob Iger mentioned in his town hall meeting that the Hiring Freeze from his predecessor was still in play, however, I have seen a few job listings show up online from Custodial Staff to Character Look-Alikes.
Being on the outside of the Walt Disney Company I could be completely oblivious to the changes that are underway. Iger could be holding meetings to determine what needs to change to improve Disney’s image to the public, honestly, we know that is really why he was brought in to lead the Walt Disney Company once again.
Bob Iger is very personable, he is also a dreamer like Walt was. His vision of the Walt Disney Company is what is needed to lead the Company back on top once again.
I really hope that he can remove some of those roadblocks that have stifled Disney the past few years. I know for me personally when I mention Disney to my non-Disney friends they give me that look like Oh yeah, no thanks. In years past when I would mention Disney I would always get we had the greatest time at <insert park name here> or I loved <insert movie or tv show here>.
While I know there haven’t been many changes made YET at the Walt Disney Company, I and many like me remain hopeful that Bob Iger will improve the Disney image and maybe reverse a few things that were done by his predecessor.
What do you think? Can Bob Iger return Disney to its former glory? Or has the Disney Image been too tarnished to recover?
