Is Construction About to Begin on the New Star Wars Resort at Walt Disney World?

Is construction about to begin on the new Star Wars Resort coming to Hollywood Studios? Per the notice of commencement that was filed today with Orange County, it looks that might be the case!

The permit points to a new “foundation, steel structure, core & shell” will be built on Cypress Drive. Cypress Drive is the road that encompasses Hollywood Studios as seen in the map below. The road goes throughout the backstage area of Hollywood Studios but also goes by the where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be located.

It’s also important to note that Whiting-Turner Contracting Co is listed as the contractor on the deed. Whiting-Turner Contracting is also one of the main contractors who is currently working on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While it seems like this notice of commencement does point to the beginning of the construction on the new Star Wars Resort, it also could mean several other things. It simply could mean a new backstage structure is being built to service the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or even the new Toy Story Land. With so many changes coming to Hollywood Studios, it can also simply mean a new eatery is built in one of the new lands.
