A new Star Wars virtual reality experience, “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge”, is introducing users to new locations and characters in Black Spire Outpost on the Star Wars planet of Batuu. Batuu is the setting for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The experience blurs the line between real-world theme park fantasy and video game hyperreality by bringing Batuu and Black Spire Outpost to the virtual world. This makes us wonder if the virtual world of “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge” could be brought to the theme parks.

“We’re going to explore and expand on the story of Black Spire Outpost, which you can see at Galaxy’s Edge,” ILMxLAB director Jose Perez III said in a video for “Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”

Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB teamed with Walt Disney Imagineering artists who worked on the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction in order to maintain a consistent visual style between the parks and the VR world.

There is a new bar in “Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge” called Seezelslak’s Cantina, run by a six-eyed Star Wars alien with a tendency for over-imbibing and a love-hate relationship with porgs. Concept art for this new cantina shows it is located next door to Oga’s Cantina. Could this mean that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge may get another cantina in the future?

Oga’s Cantina has proved to be very popular with reservations filling up quickly. It would make sense to have a second one in the park.

Seezelslak’s Cantina is owned by a six-eyed Azumel just like the alien who played sabacc with Han Solo and Lando Calrissian in the 2018 “Solo” film. He is rough around the edges and a bit kooky. He is also voiced by “Saturday Night Live” alumni Bobby Moynihan in the VR experience.

“He enjoys his life,” ILMxLAB co-lead animator Kishore Vijay said in the video. “He’s got a bit of a belly. He samples too much of his own goods.”

A new cantina would bring some extra excitement to the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge universe at the theme parks. We really hope this becomes a reality someday soon!
