Even adventurers need to hang up the hat someday. No one else will play Indiana Jones after Harrison Ford retires from the role.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, said that the studio learned a valuable lesson following the release of the Star Wars prequel, Solo, and will never again attempt to recast iconic characters.

Fans of the famous franchise need not worry about an Indiana Jones film without Ford, as the actor is irreplaceable in the role.
Watching Harrison Ford don the hat and whip once again for the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 reminded Kennedy why no other actor can play the role. Combined with the response to the recasting of another beloved Harrison Ford character in Solo, Kennedy and the studio concluded that this was not the way to go.
“Maybe I should have recognized this before. We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there wasn’t a day I wasn’t on set where I wasn’t like, ‘Yes — this is Indiana Jones.”
—Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President
Harrison Ford first appeared as Dr. Henry Jones, Jr./Indiana Jones in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. The actor reprised the role in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). Ford recently wrapped filming on the fifth film in the franchise, which will mark the last time he plays Indiana Jones.
