Disney Imagineering Reveals Secrets for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Take a walk through the cartoon world with an all-new episode of WED Walks by Walt Disney Imagineering! Join the very creators who brought Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as they reveal the hidden secrets, technical marvels, and untold stories woven into this zany attraction.

In this behind-the-scenes deep dive, Imagineers confirm that Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway officially holds the record for the most Hidden Mickeys of any attraction ever built at Walt Disney World.
The team also reveals fascinating technical milestones from the ride’s development:
- The Preshow Prototype: To ensure the cartoon “explosion” felt perfect, Imagineers built a full-scale prototype of one preshow room to test in the field before constructing the second one.
- UV Innovation: In a Disney first, the team successfully “married” digital projections with UV-printed paint to create vibrant, glowing environments.
- The “Happy Color” Secret: The entire attraction is projected onto a specific shade of gray known internally as “Happy Color,” designed specifically to make the animated scenes pop with life.

One major Easter egg revealed in the video is the presence of “Crustacia,” a hidden crab tucked away in every single scene of the attraction! Finding her has become the ultimate challenge for eagle-eyed fans.
The Imagineers also detailed the immense technical difficulty of the ride’s finale. They explain the complex process of printing on moving elements as the environment seamlessly transforms from a mechanical factory back into a serene park setting just in time for your final encounter with Goofy.
