Some of the reviews read:

I dropped in for a stay after a long drive from Chicago. I was wary and I was just looking for a bed. As I entered the lobby, I immediately noticed cobwebs on the once-glamorous chandeliers and furniture. I shrugged it off, purely from exhaustion.

I stepped to the front desk, where a bored, ghostly-looking young lady stood. I asked her the price of the room and she looked at me with an odd smile. She expressed that prices were always falling at the Hollywood Tower Hotel and that was good enough for me.
Beware, no wifi or complimentary breakfast at this place, cell service isn’t great either, which is fine because rates are so low.

I’m now on my way up to my room as we speak. Unfortunately, the main elevators are out of order, so I was led to a service elevator by a strangely quiet elderly gentleman.
I will update this review when I am finished with my stay. I’m sure everything will be fine.
~Mallorie G. Aurora, IL

Another review reads:

Very dusty, avoid it if you have allergies or are scared of ghosts. Pretty sure the bellman stole my bags. Have good security systems though. Saw a lot of elevator repairmen around, seems fairly safe tho. Avoid the 13th floor. ~ Brittany L. Salt lake City Utah

There’s more:

First off, the check-in was awful. The wait was really long (like 120 min). Likely the front desk representatives causing the backup. They weren’t even apologetic for the wait and rushed us along to the elevator.

We then found that the main elevator was down for service, which isn’t surprising. By the look of disrepair and cobwebs, they are likely in between management. We were forced to use the service elevator, by way of the library(all the books were locked up). The introduction video was cultural and unique. I did like how it offered a history of the hotel.

We were led through the boiler room to the service elevator and didn’t even make it to our room after we were scared half to death by the lack of maintenance given to the elevator. We aren’t faint of heart, but that elevator wasn’t working properly, no matter what the manager says. I would not recommend this hotel. ~ Chris T. Rockledge Florida

These reviews are very helpful for anyone dying to stay at the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Personally, I think it might be a little dusty but it defiantly promises to be memorable!

The Hollywood terror hotel is also known as “The Tower of Terror” to guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The ride attraction is based on the popular television series “The Twilight Zone” which was originally aired from 1959 to 1964 by Rod Serling.

The ride features a free-fall style 130-foot drop in a dilapidated-looking elevator. Multiple drops are random in relation to how far you are dropped, but you can always expect to experience at least one 130-foot drop for each ride experience!

The Backstory

6

It should be noted that the Yelp reviews are pure satire. The Hollywood Tower Hotel is an attraction and ride experience at Hollywood Studios designed to look like a 1920s to 1930s-era hotel.

The Hollywood Tower Hotel opened in 1928 and quickly became a “star in its own right, a beacon for the show business elite.” But on October 31, 1939, lightning struck the Hollywood Tower Hotel, and an elevator carrying five guests mysteriously vanished, along with a large portion of the hotel itself. No staff or guests could determine what happened to the guests inside the missing elevator, so everyone vacated the hotel immediately and the building sat abandoned for years.

Next time you visit Hollywood Studios be sure to drop in and check out the famous and historic hotel. You might want to avoid the elevators though! If you’re too faint of heart to enjoy the attraction you can head just past the entrance and check out the Tower Gift Shop. They have a lot of attraction-themed merchandise but also collectibles as well.

This is defiantly one of my favorite rides at Hollywood Studios. The theming is really immersive and you feel as if you stepped back in time.
