A high school senior from New York passed away after being taken to an Orlando hospital during his class trip to Walt Disney World. Jeffrey Cintron, from Lackawanna High School in Lackawanna, New York, died Friday after becoming ill on his senior class trip, according to officials from his school district.
Cintron had complained of back pain while at a Disney World Resort hotel, where he was checked out by an ambulance crew before being taken to a local hospital. They reported that he lost consciousness while on their way to the hospital. He then died in the emergency room late Friday night. The cause of death is not yet known, but an autopsy is planned to be conducted.
“Jeffrey was a great person,” Cintron’s cousin, Tony Darmstedter, said in a statement provided by WGRZ in Buffalo. “He was that kid you could never be mad at, always had a smile on his face and always made others smile. He was funny, charming, played basketball for fun with his friends. I got him into ice hockey.”
“We are all shocked at Jeffrey’s passing,” Darmstedter added. “And although he may be gone, he will never be forgotten. We miss him, and we love him.”
The Lackawanna school district posted the following statement on their website:
“Dear Parents, Guardians, and Lackawanna Community,
