Heroic Cast Member Injured Saving Guests from Runaway Boulder at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
A potentially dangerous situation was averted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios today thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of a Cast Member at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
During a performance of the long-running stunt show on Tuesday, December 30, the iconic rolling boulder prop—a massive sphere weighing approximately 400 pounds—reportedly became dislodged from its track during the opening temple scene. Instead of following its scripted path, the prop began rolling toward a section of the audience.

According to witnesses, a Cast Member on stage immediately recognized the danger. In a split-second decision, he threw his body in front of the runaway prop to intercept its path. The impact successfully stopped the boulder’s momentum before it could reach the guest seating area, but the collision resulted in the Cast Member being pinned and injured.
“It was terrifying. One second we were watching the show, and the next, that giant rock was heading right for the front row,” said one guest who witnessed the incident. “That Cast Member didn’t hesitate. He literally jumped in front of it to protect everyone.”
Show operations were immediately halted as the medical team rushed to the stage. The theater was evacuated to allow emergency personnel to attend to the injured employee.
Disney issued the following statement:
“We’re focused on supporting our Cast Member, who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.”
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! has been a staple of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1989. While the show is designed to demonstrate the “movie magic” behind dangerous stunts, today’s event was an unscripted reminder of the real-world risks involved in live physical performance. The boulder prop, while made of rubber and fiberglass, is heavy enough to cause significant injury, making the Cast Member’s intervention all the more commendable.
