The Walt Disney Archives is 50 years with an extensive exhibition at this year’s D23 Expo. The expo is taking place this weekend and the archives has brought special costume creations for fans too marvel at.
This special exhibit holds over 70 amazingly crafted costumes from famous costume designers. This 12,000 square-foot space showcases creations from Ellen Miorjnick, Colleen Atwood, Sandy Powell, Tony Walton, Eduardo Castro, and Penny Rose. Fans will get to immerse themselves in the magic of these masterpieces from many beloved movies and shows.
The first gallery of the exhibit is “Cinderella’s Workshop”. This gallery shows a small film dedicated to the designers, their craft, and their creations. In the center of the gallery is the iconic Cinderella ball gown. The exhibit also has a special spot for Cinderella’s carriage as well.
The second gallery is titled, “Heroes, Villains, and Spaces Between”. This gallery features the heroes and villains we have come to know and love. They are placed in poses that showcase the story arc of good versus evil. The photo below shows the classic look that Anthony Powell created for Glenn Close’s Cruella De Vil as she faces off with one of the 101 Dalmatians.
The curator of the exhibit, Robert Maxhimer has a list of his must-sees of the two galleries. He recommends Sandy Powell’s Lady Tremaine, Anna B. Sheppard’s Maleficent, Paco Delgado’s Mrs. Which, and Colleen Atwood’s Colette Merchant from Tim Burton’s Dumbo.
