Storytime with Grinch: A Universal Orlando Holiday Dining Review

The Grinch™ & Friends Character Breakfast is a holiday tradition at Universal Orlando that combines festive food, whimsical atmosphere, and the chance to meet the mean, green one himself. Hosted on select dates from November 22 through December 30, this sold-out event has returned to its rightful home in Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous, and it does not disappoint.

Atmosphere
After a temporary relocation to Confisco Grille last year, the breakfast is back in Seuss Landing, where the Dr. Seuss-inspired circus theme adds a layer of immersive charm. Dining under the whimsical big top, surrounded by Seussian decor and holiday cheer, elevates the entire experience. Guests can even wave to riders on the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! The setting feels magical, with Sam-I-Am posing for photos, Whos spreading holiday cheer, and the Grinch presiding over the festivities in his signature mischievous style.

The Feast
This year continues the single entrée format introduced in 2023. While online opinions have been mixed, we found the food delightful. Breakfast begins with a shared platter of fresh muffins, yogurt, and seasonal berries. Entrées, like the Green Eggs & Ham and Cindy-Lou Who’s Belgian Waffles, are deliciously prepared and served hot. The tater tots topped with sausage gravy in the Green Eggs & Ham stole the show, while the waffles with green sugar crystals, fresh berries, and crispy bacon made for a sweet and savory treat. Coffee was plentiful, and the wrapped cookie at the end added a festive touch. Though we didn’t try the Sour Apple Slush, other diners raved about its sweet and tangy flavor.

Character Interactions
The highlight of the event is, of course, meeting the Grinch. While Day 1 of the event was reportedly plagued with long waits, Universal quickly resolved the issues. During our visit, the process was seamless. After placing drink orders, guests were directed to the Grinch meet-and-greet area with minimal wait time. The Grinch delighted guests with his snarky humor and playful antics—our onion, wrapped in a green produce bag, was an unexpected hit!

It’s worth noting that the standard Grinch meet-and-greet in the park had a standby queue exceeding three hours by the time we finished breakfast. The efficiency and exclusivity of this event ensure a stress-free encounter with Whoville’s finest.

Final Thoughts
The Grinch™ & Friends Character Breakfast is a must-do for families and Grinch fans alike. From the festive ambiance to the memorable interactions, it’s a holiday experience that’s worth every penny. The food, while not the star, is solid and enjoyable, and the atmosphere makes it all the more special. This event has cemented itself as a beloved tradition for our family, and we’ll undoubtedly be returning in 2025. If you missed out this year, be sure to book early for next season—it’s a can’t-miss holiday treat!
